Student Testimonials
“I was looking for a place to do some yoga while on vacation in Tiverton, RI, and drove by this new place (saw the sign), so dropped in for a class.

"Just wanted to let you know how much you touched my soul today.  You have such a warm energy that flows through each of us with your guidance and words to reflect upon."  Thank you so much!"

I spoke with Rachael who was warm, welcoming and professional.  I took the closest available yoga class to my visit - aromatic yoga with Rachael instructing.  I knew it would be good somehow, although I had never done that particular class - and I was right.  It was a wonderfully challenging

Sandy
I’ve been teaching yoga throughout New England for about 8 years and I’m so grateful to call Nanaquaket Yoga Studio my home.

Our lives are very hectic and full, which can be wonderful and yet overwhelming at the same time. It therefore becomes so important to take a “counter pose” to this potential over-stimulation in order to stay balanced and healthy. In my classes, I encourage feelings of playful curiosity in an environment of safety and non-judgement.
I bring to my teaching a passion for anatomy - the structures and functioning of this amazing human body we inhabit. By combining experiential mindfulness with this knowledge, we can “come home” to the body and discover a more easeful and honest way to learn about, care for, and appreciate this facet of ourselves.

I am also devoted to working with the stories and myths beneath the names of many of the poses that comprise our practice. By delving deeper into the selection of these Sanskrit names, we move from our western interpretation of yoga to a place closer to its origins  This in turn, can help inform and enrich our understanding. It’s a wonderful paradox - by reaching back into a history thousands of years old, we can uncover jewels to enliven and refresh our daily practice.

  Kim
A life-long dancer and gymnast, Kim turned to yoga to rebuild her mind and spirit after a serious illness.  Yoga continues to bring balance to her life as she juggles multiple passions in service to others, including dog training, career mentoring, and healing practices.  She completed her 200-hour certification with Ragunuth Cappo, founder of Supersoul yoga. Kim’s classes will focus on the connection between mind and body as well as the concept of practicing yoga on and off the mat. Her objective is to help others realize their authentic selves and full potential while comfortably expressing themselves, both physically and spiritually.  You can expect creative and playful sequences in her classes that will also include hands-on assists. She recognizes and embraces the inherent light and diverse beauty in everyone.
Kim also has her Level II Reiki certification and is honored to share this healing practice with humans and animals.  She is grateful to have found a strong community of like-minded yogis and to part of the Nanaquaket Yoga kula.

This Fall/Winter season Kim will focus on integrating the Yamas and Niyamas.
The yamas and niyamas are yoga's ethical guidelines laid out in the first two limbs of Patanjali's eightfold path. ... Simply put, the yamas  are things not to do, or restraints, while the niyamas  are things to do, or observances. Together, they form a moral code of conduct.

Michelle
Michelle practiced yoga on and off for many years before she truly fell in love with it.  The realization that others may also have mixed feelings about yoga encouraged her to become a teacher.  Her intention is for her students to enjoy the physical aspects of yoga so that they can fully benefit from the emotional and spiritual components as well. Michelle’s classes focus on proper alignment, modification of poses for various ability levels, and breath work.

Certified by The Yoga of Energy Flow Teacher Training Program. Registered with Yoga Alliance, RYT 200.
Michelle is also certified in “Yoga 4 Classrooms” which she practices everyday with her first grade students.

Michelle’s Align & Flow classes for the fall will focus on stretching and strengthening the back body.
Synchronizing movements with inhalations and exhalations will encourage the yoga practitioner to
approach the yoga class as a moving meditation. The postures and flows, combined with the meditative
qualities of the movements will lead to self-awareness in the body. The repetitive movements increase
circulation which is important to healing and maintaining a healthy body. Michelle offers modifications
and variations throughout her classes, thus making her classes suitable for all levels.
During Savasana, the final resting pose, Michelle will help you relax using the beautiful and therapeutic vibrations of the Gong.

CARLY
Carly first started yoga in 2007 while living in Brooklyn, NY, but it wasn't until moving to Newport in 2015 that yoga transformed from an exercise to a deeper practice.  Carly strives to bring to her classes creativity, wisdom, and fun that emboldened her to take her practice to the next level. While challenging and fluid, you can expect to tap into a deeper sense of self-inquiry in Carly's class through slow mindful movement and pranayama. Carly's own practice consists of lots of arm balances, bandhas, and breath-work so, while every class will cater to the level and description, you are encouraged to chat with her if you would like to dive deeper into any of these areas.
Carly received her 200 hour certification through Nanaquaket Yoga Studio and is so heartened to be coming back home to teach.

 Lilli Neville
Lilli first introduced to hatha yoga more than 10 years ago, Lilli truly fell in love with the practice in 2015 while living in Charleston, SC.  Initially drawn to yoga for exercise and movement, she eventually developed a deeper appreciation for the meditative and mindfulness aspects of the practice.  Born and raised in RI, Lilli joined the Navy in 2012 upon graduating college and has lived all over the country in the years since.  She recently moved back to the area and is stationed at Naval Station Newport as a seamanship and shiphandling instructor.   This opportunity allowed her to realize her long standing desire to complete a yoga teacher training and she is a recent graduate of Nanaquaket Yoga Studio’s 200-hour Teacher Training.   She welcomes all forms of practice, from power to gentle, guided meditation to pranayama breathing.  Her motivation for teaching is to bring the healing and restorative aspects of yoga to as many people as possible.

Vanessa
Vanessa first discovered Yoga as a teen and fell immediately in love. Throughout the years, it was something she turned to not only as a means of exercise, but also as a tool to manage her personal struggle with stress and anxiety. The mindful awareness of movement and breath, coupled with the spiritual philosophies of Yoga has offered her incredible relief and transformation.

Recently, Vanessa took her passion for Yoga to the next level and completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training here at NYS. She hopes to offer her students a sort of sanctuary – a space where they can come to press pause on their busy modern lives and develop peace of mind, body, and spirit.
Vanessa’s teaching style is authentic and compassionate, her voice soft and clear. Students can expect an easeful pace of movement through a series of foundational poses aimed at stretching the whole body and releasing muscle tension.
